April 13th, 2018: A Celebration in Chaumont!

The weather was fair and everyone was ready. The building cleaned, prepared and decorated by church members in readiness for the official opening of the church building.

Surprise! While we were in the very last stage of preparations, the deputy mayor of Chaumont arrived early.  He apologized because he and his wife could not assist in the inauguration due to a scheduling conflict. He still took the opportunity to tour the premises and congratulate us. And, he promised to visit us soon.

Then our guests arrived, and the room was full – around fifty people in total. In an introduction, Gordon, my former supervisor, placed “L’Église de Chaumont” in the evangelical French landscape. Then, in a demonstration of what regularly happens in the church, a few women sung praises to God. A slideshow with explanations retraced our work in this project and gave an overview of our meetings.

I then had the occasion to invite the audience to reflect. Equipped with a measuring tape, I explained that the hardest thing to measure is not plasterboard, but the goodness of God because we must stop and take the time to look. We measured during this inauguration, as our God is good and generous towards us. The ribbon to cut and the measuring tape are one in the same. Everyone could leave with a piece to remember that day and the importance of measuring the goodness of God.

Next in the order were the “tartes flambées”! A team was busy in front of the oven, and the evening continued peacefully by the fire.

Throughout this adventure, God gave us a beautiful gift. He took part in all things for the success of the project, the inauguration. We depend on Him for the next steps.
