2022 Review and 2023 Opportunities in Lens

The end of a year and the beginning of a new one mark the perfect time to stop and reflect on our plans for the future. The last blog post here followed the work being done for the Mission FPC in general, and for our planting projects in Reims and Metz in particular. This post will give you a more specific overview of our work in Lens.

When I look in the rearview mirror, I’m encouraged to see how much we’ve accomplished. The Lord gave us strength and sent us people… He is in control!!!

In 2022, we were able to accommodate one young woman and two young men for their “PASS” training (Parcours d’Apprentissage au Service du Seigneur) up until the summer. Since September we have welcomed four Pass trainees and an intern from the Institut Biblique de Genève (IBG). It’s really encouraging to train and guide them, it’s an enormous investment in the lives of these young people.

Our youth has had a good time at the IBG Easter conference. It was a highlight.

We baptized two young women and have organized various celebrations. For example, at the start of the school year we hosted a friendly barbecue, then a Thanksgiving meal in November. We also carried out some renovations in July and coordinated a group trip to the Christmas market in Lens last December.

Woah, what great opportunities to live the beautiful message of the Gospel! Good times to meet with our friends through sport, music, meals, and the tenth anniversary celebration of our café. …

⇒ Remembering these high points encourages me to appreciate God’s faithfulness!

How do I envision 2023?

It’s quite difficult to visualize, so I would instead like to think back to a few different promises that encourage me:

⇒ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). This is so comforting when the world is changing at full speed, with all the political, economic, and energy uncertainties that worry us.

⇒ God is with us always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

⇒ And God is faithful; he will not let you be tested beyond what you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13).

So many more promises could still be added to this list. Don’t hesitate to send some to us. If you are at a loss for ideas, remember that God is loving, good, full of compassion, full of grace…

As a Church, we want to put ourselves out there, but above all, we want to encourage ourselves to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. This is essential in order to grow together and become more and more like Christ.

May God encourage you this new year!
