Much has been said and written concerning the recent war involving Israel. So many articles, videos, and publications on all kinds of social networks! So many more-or-less exotic interpretations of the facts unfolding before our eyes.
One thing is certain: the great Narrative unwinds according to a plan established from all eternity. Our God is sovereign and in control. “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.” (2) He does not handle the chaos of men, responding to the urgency of a moment and having to “make do” in order to achieve his aims. On the contrary, just as in the past, today he still has “my servant, Nebuchadnezzar”(3) or “Cyrus, my shepherd.” (4) God can incline the hearts of the great in this world as he wishes (5). What a beautiful reassurance!
At the same time, we remember all the more the need to be ready, because the Son of Man “is near, right at the door.” (6) We are also invited to lead a wise and sober lifestyle, so that we can pray. We are “redeeming the time, because the days are evil,” (7) and approaching non-believers with wisdom, so that they may come to repent while the Lord is patient. (8)
It is with this state of mind that our team has worked tirelessly over the past year to challenge, exhort, and encourage our fellow citizens to make peace with God. You have undoubtedly done so in your own spheres of influence, too. While there is still time, it is our collective responsibility to do so.
This same reflection has also been the driving force for strengthening people in everyday life, by forming disciples so that the Church, whether gathered or dispersed, assumes its role as the salt of the earth and light of the world while progressing towards holiness, without which “no one will see the Lord.” (9)
2023 is coming to an end, with its share of joys, trials, and tribulations. Thank you for being by our side, you are invaluable! Thank you for your solidary and your generosity. We pray that the Lord encourages you in this supportive ministry and that together we can see the Church of Jesus grow even more in 2024.
